Not only has pet medicine come a long way in recent years, so has the technology we can use at home to make their and your lives easier!
Cat flaps
Long gone are the days of a simple flap-covered hole in a door that let any cat in; cat flaps can now be secured to allow only your cat through by reading their unique microchip. A really useful piece of technology if you have local neighbourhood cats that like to let themselves in! Many now come with apps to allow remote locking and automatic curfews.
But wait, there’s more! Does your cat like to bring you “gifts”? Keep finding dead mice on your pillow? (or even some alive ones?!). Thanks to video technology and AI sensors, cat flaps can now detect when your cat is coming home with a present for you and will not allow them in with their contraband – like these ones from Only Cat. You can allow your cat to roam freely, safe in the knowledge they won’t be bringing in any unwanted guests.
Automatic feeders
You can now feed your cat via an app with an intelligent automatic feeder. A great option for owners whose schedules don’t always line up with a fussy cat’s mealtimes. It can also prevent multiple members of the household feeding an alread- fed cat! Modern models also include options to slowly dispense smaller amounts of food over a longer time for those cats that eat too quickly. Check out this version from Pets at Home with an integrated app.
Water fountains
Cats are notoriously fussy when it comes to drinking, they like clean water in place where they feel safe. Water fountains are a good option for a fussy cat as they provide clean, filtered, flowing water, which many cats prefer. Introduce a new water fountain slowly as they can be noisy and make sure they are disassembled and cleaned regularly.
Pet cameras
Modern pet cameras do more than just give you a video of your pet. They can track movement, allow you to talk to them remotely, play with them and even throw them a treat. If you are anxious about leaving your cat at home, particularly if they are a new addition, you can monitor them via an app to ensure they are settling in and not up to mischief. Cameras can also help you track changes in your pet’s behaviours, such as playing less, anxious behaviours or anti-social activities!
