Winter Dog Walking Tips
The weather has been distinctly chilly icy recently, for the second time this winter – although it looks a little warmer next week, who knows whether snow might still be round the corner.
So here are our winter walking tips for all of you with dogs.
- Make sure both you and your dog are visible after dark. Choose a hi-viz coat and a light up dog collar.
- Wipe your dogs feet, belly and legs after a walk to get rid of grit and salt.
- If your dog is short haired consider a warm dog coat when the temperature drops.
- If you’re walking your dog less due to inclement weather, keep them occupied and active indoors with appropriate toys and games.
- Never let your dog play near frozen ponds or lakes.
- Keep your dog on a lead in the snow, there may be hidden dangers beneath deep snow drifts.
- As always, make sure your dog is wearing an ID tag and their microchip details are up to date.
