Neutering is the common term used to describe the surgical procedure of removing an animal’s reproductive organs in order to make them sterile. There are many benefits to having your pet neutered beyond just preventing unwanted litters. Neutering can prevent certain cancers and diseases and reduce aggression, straying, spraying and other anti-social behaviours.
Canine neutering
We offer conventional neutering (castration for males and spaying for females) as well as a keyhole spay option. We also offer non-surgical castration options for male dogs, speak to your vet about whether this would be appropriate for your pet.
Feline neutering
If you have an outdoor female cat, spaying is essential to prevent unwanted and unexpected litters. With male cats, castration can prevent aggression, straying and spraying in the house.
Rabbit and guinea pig neutering
Neutering small animals help prevent unwanted litters in mixed-sex pairings and can have positive behavioural effects.
Ferret neutering
The medical benefits of neutering are perhaps more important in ferrets than most other pets, if a female ferret is not mated or spayed they can develop anaemia, which can be fatal. We offer surgical and non-surgical neutering options for ferrets, which are best discussed with your vet if you are unsure which is best for your pet.
