A Regular Flea and Worming Programme is essential to keep your pet in good condition and for long term health.
Parasites of all kinds can cause serious problems for your pets – and are pretty nasty for you and your family too.
A regular prevention programme is important, since fleas for example tend to build up and are found in the house, on furniture and in carpets – yes everyone’s, no matter how clean!
Typically only about 5% of the fleas in your house are adult and living on your cat or dog – 95% are eggs, larvae and pupae, waiting to develop.
Which Products To Choose?
We are regularly asked about the best specific products to use.
Unfortunately most of those available at pet shops for fleas are not very effective. Some of them used to work perfectly well, but over time, those pesky parasites have developed resistance – rather like the situation with humans and some antibiotics.
So we do strongly recommend you use our recommended products, which we constantly monitor and update to make sure your pet has the very best and most effective products.
Here are our current recommendations:
- Advocate every month for fleas, with
- Drontal or milpro every 3 months for worms
For those that travel, we also add advantix to this regime, as it is good for ticks – this and the advocate can be given 2 weeks apart.
- Advocate monthly for fleas, with
- Profendor/milpro every 3 months covering tape worm.
Worried About Ticks?
If you are worried about ticks, you can use a seresto collar instead of advocate and advantix, then you need milpro every month to cover the lungworm.
Individual Tailored Advice
Ideally, we recommend discussing the best programme for your individual pet with one of our team of vets.
Then we can discuss any special requirements. For example – is your pet a scavenger? Or an indoor cat or rabbit perhaps?
Of course, if you are a member of our Platinum Pet Club, your regular flea and worming control products are included within your membership – and this does give you significant savings too.
